This offering comes from Abadatezuka Cooperative, a group of smallholder farmers in Rwanda’s Western Province who deliver their coffee in cherry to the Cyato Washing Station, located in the Cyato sector of the Nayamasheke district. The coffee is grown at elevations all the way up to 2,200 meters above sea level, and the washing station is 1,850 meters above sea level.
It’s a beautiful natural process lot. During the drying period, the coffee is actively rotated and moved in order to ensure even drying. The native honeybees that live in the Nyungwe forest are said to aid the coffee’s unique profile. The bee-assisted pollination, fertile ground (comprised of black humus and sandy soil), proximity to Lake Kivu, and cool climate all contribute to the flavors found in this cup. The farmers do not use synthetic inputs, either as fertilizers or as pest control.
The result is magic.
The cup is juicy, sweet, and soft with praline, almond, and lemon flavors.
